This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to load and unload goods and/or cargo. It includes loading and unloading goods and cargo, securing and protecting a load and completing all required documentation in accordance with relevant state or territory roads and traffic authority regulations and permit requirements. Upon completion of the training, learners will have a fundamental knowledge of how goods / cargo are loaded and unloaded in accordance with relevant mass, dimension and loading regulations and workplace procedures as per the current chain of responsibility legislation.
This unit of competency provides the skills and knowledge to:
- Identify load characteristics and job hazards.
- Identify goods requiring special handling and or documentation.
- Ensure the relevant mass, dimensions and loading requirements are met.
- Follow workplace procedures and supply relevant workplace documentation.
- Understand the various methods of Load Restraint and how to meet the current ‘Performance Standards’
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to secure cargo, in accordance with procedures and regulatory requirements, as part of work activities within industry. It includes preparing to secure cargo/containers, lashing and unlashing cargo, protecting cargo from weather and packing and unpacking cargo.
